Put It in Storage
This is perhaps the best idea if you are not sure what you next few years are going to look like yet. You may be still searching for the perfect job or internship, which means you may find yourself in temporary housing for a little while before getting your own apartment. Self storage units are a good way to put a pin in it, meaning you won't have to make any permanent decisions about what to do with your old desk until you have solidified your next steps.
Take it All With You
You could also just take everything with you, whether you have a long term place figured out or not. If you're renting a room while job searching, there's definitely something comforting about having your old bed with you. But this can quickly become expensive if you have to move your stuff again after a few months. Not to mention that it's a big hassle to arrange a mover every few months.
Consolidate
You could also just decide to keep some core items and get rid of the rest. Your tastes may evolve, meaning that you will want to upgrade your dorm room couch in a few short months anyway. In that case, you might just try to sell your items to some incoming freshmen and use the money to put towards your goals later on.
Keep Them in a Relative's or Friend's House
You could also ask a relative or friend to hold onto some of your belongings for you. That is a decent idea if you have a definite timeline for when you will be getting your own place. But it can become uncomfortable quickly for both people if your cello is taking up half of a friend's closet for a year.
In short, there are a number of things to do with your items after you graduate. If you start early, you might be able to do a few of these. For instance, try and sell some items, donate what doesn't get sold in time, and find a good storage unit for the items that you really want to keep safe. I made a difficult decision to leave the company that I was working for and start a small home interior design business of my own.
