What You Need To Know About Renting Storage Units

Blog

By now, you have probably heard that many people are hiring storage units for their personal storage needs. If you have never used these units, you may be wondering how to go on about the process and whether it's worth it.

Typically, storage units are safe, convenient, and easily accessible for all your storage needs. And they also offer various amenities, like climate-controlled units and modern storage equipment, to give you an awesome experience. Read on to learn more about storage units.

What Storage Options Do You Have?

There are two options to consider for your personal storage needs:

First, there is the self-storage option. You are required to deliver your items to the storage facility and pick them up when the time expires. When your items are in the facility, they're safe and secure, and you have access to them anytime you want.

The second option is full-service storage. Here, the storage company will pick the items from your home and deliver them to the facility. When the storage time expires and you wish to take back your items, the company will also bring them home. Therefore, you don't have to go through the hassle of transporting your belongings to and from the storage facility.

What's the Size of a Storage Unit?

Typically, storage units come in different sizes. Some of the standard sizes in these facilities include 5*5, 5*10, 10*10, and 10*20. There are also larger sizes for bulky goods. The number of lockers or boxes needed for your items will be one of the determinants of the price the facility charges you.

What Items Can You Store in Storage Units?

You can store all types of items in a storage unit, from household appliances, documents, furniture to machinery, motorcycles, and vehicles. If you're dealing in high bulky goods, you'll need to hire large units or more than one unit. Confirm with the storage unit facility in advance that they can handle the size of your items.

How Do You Prepare Your Items for Storage?

If you're using the self-service option, it's advisable to clean your items and keep inventory before transporting your items to a storage facility. Cleaning helps to keep your things in good condition, especially for long-term storage. When keeping an inventory, you can also include photographs of your items and their value, if applicable.

When packing your valuables for personal storage, you can also use labels to locate where different items are stored easily. A good way to label items is to use a numbering system that other people aren't familiar with.

storage units for storing your business items

I made a difficult decision to leave the company that I was working for and start a small home interior design business of my own. Since I had limited space in my apartment, I had to find a place to keep all of the things that I needed to present my clients with the ideas that I had come up with. How did I find the space that I needed - I found a storage facility close to my apartment. My storage unit is organized and set up in a way that I can find what I need and can store more than I need for my business.
