3 Tips For Organizing Your Storage Unit

Blog

One of the biggest issues that many people encounter when using self-storage units is being able to find the stored items they need when the time comes to use these items. Oftentimes, this problem results from a failure to properly organize their storage unit from the very beginning. Thankfully, you can easily avoid having this problem yourself by choosing to use the three tips below to organize your storage unit.

Tip #1: Use A Color Coded System To Identify Items

The last thing you want to do when looking for items in your storage unit is to have to go through every box or bin in search of the items you need. Implementing a color-coded system for your stored items can make identifying the containers you need both quick and easy. The way this type of organizational system works is quite simple. Begin by selecting a specific color label or storage bin for each category of items you will be storing. For example, you may choose to put summer clothing in blue storage bins and holiday decor in green storage bins. Next, you will want to create a master list just in case you forget what color is assigned to each category. Finally, simply pack all of your items according to this color-coded system. When the time comes to collect the items you need from your storage unit, you will be able to quickly grab the items you need by looking for the correctly colored labels or bins rather than going through each different container.

Tip #2: Create Aisles For Easy Access

Unless you want to remove all of the items in the front of your storage unit each time you need to access an item in the rear of your storage unit, it is important to create aisles to allow for easy access. Aisles should be left on both sides of the unit stretching from the front of the unit to the very rear of the unit. Be sure to create aisles that are big enough for you to remove any larger items that you may have stored in the rear of your unit.

Tip #3: Use Shelving Units To Take Advantage Of Vertical Space

The ability to take advantage of vertical space can have a huge impact on how much stuff you can fit into your storage unit. However, simply stacking items on top of one another can result in both safety hazards and property damage. That is why the best way to take advantage of vertical space is to make use of shelving units inside your storage unit. Choosing to use storage units will also allow you to avoid needing to move multiple boxes or storage bins to get to the one you need at the bottom of a large stack.

storage units for storing your business items

I made a difficult decision to leave the company that I was working for and start a small home interior design business of my own. Since I had limited space in my apartment, I had to find a place to keep all of the things that I needed to present my clients with the ideas that I had come up with. How did I find the space that I needed - I found a storage facility close to my apartment. My storage unit is organized and set up in a way that I can find what I need and can store more than I need for my business.
